Redington Beach History and Information
Redington Beach, North Redington Beach, and Redington Shores, often referred to as “The Redington Beaches,” offer a classic Florida mix of beautiful and immaculate beaches, tropical resorts and hotels, casual and fine dining restaurants, fishing and much more. The towns are primarily residential waterfront communities consisting of single-family condos, townhouses, homes, and low-rise condominiums. Visitors will find the exclusive Florida Gulf Coast marine wildlife such as sea turtles, crabs, manatees, stingrays, and dolphins.
Redington Beach, N Redington Beach and Redington Shores are named after Charles Redington. He purchased the land between Madeira Beach and Indian Rocks Beach where the current communities are located in 1930. Five years later he built the first permanent residence in the area.
Established in 1944, the town of Redington Beach offers the finest in resorts and hotel accommodations and boasts four family oriented parks, easy public access to the Gulf of Mexico, a causeway for relaxing and fishing, and a community recreation area. Fishing and tourism are considered the major occupations in the community.
North Redington Beach’s mile long white sandy beach and glimmering shoreline draws residents and vacationers alike. The historic Tides Hotel and Bath Club, an art deco resort frequented by sports and show business celebrities such as Joe DiMaggio, Marilyn Monroe, and Alfred Hitchcock, found its home on the North Redington Beach beachfront for sixty years. Due to deteriorating structural problems and other economic reasons, the current day, elegant Tides Beach Club, which consists of six condominium buildings and three swimming pools, nestled in beautifully landscaped grounds, replaced the historic landmark.
The Long Pier, formerly the Redington Long Pier, is a fishing mecca for anglers from all over the country. Located in Redington Shores, it extends greater than 1200 feet into the Gulf of Mexico and is equipped with a large tackle shop, concession stand, several shelters, benches, and restrooms.
One of our favorite resorts in the area is the Doubletree Beach Resort in North Redington Beach. This resort is right on the beach and offers 125 exquisite guestrooms complete with private furnished balconies to relax on at the end of the day. A special Key West style Gulf front Junior Suite is on the top floor were guests wake up to stunning panoramic waterfront views.
For your dining pleasure we recommend the Conch Republic Grill on Gulf Boulevard in North Redington Beach. Self-proclaimed Conchs at Heart owners Keith and Jen Hines have one goal and that is to serve diners their incredible Key West style dishes “with a spirit of friendliness and a dash of humor.” All their menu items are made fresh every day. You’ll find many of their signature dishes, such as She-Crab soup, on the daily special list.
