Madeira Beach History and Information
Madeira Beach is affectionately referred to as “two miles long and a smile wide,” due to its small size and the many exciting water adventures available to residents and visitors. Madeira Beach is a favorite spot for vacationers due to its laid-back atmosphere. It is the home of the world-famous John’s Pass Village and Boardwalk where entertainment is endless, from fishing, snorkeling, dolphin watch, and sunset cruises to casual Florida seafood restaurants and quaint shops offering antiques, arts, crafts, clothing, and jewelry.
Madeira Beach is seperated from Treasure Island by John’s Pass, which offers boaters access to the Gulf of Mexico from Boca Ciega Bay. Legend has it that John’s Pass is named after sea turtle farmer John Levique. As the story goes, Levique traded his turtles for gold in New Orleans and then buried it on the beaches of current day Madeira Beach. On one such occasion, upon returning home, he discovered The Great Gale of 1848 had cut a pass right through the area his gold was buried. He never found his fortune, but since he was the first to discover and navigate the new pass he became its namesake.
Madeira Beach homes and condos run from $100,000 condos to luxury, waterfront, multi-million dollar mansions. There are many neighborhoods from which to choose, whether you are looking for a Gulf-front rental property or a permanent waterfront residence on Boca Ciega Bay. Madeira Beach is popular with investors because of its more relaxed rental time period restrictions.
Many resorts, hotels, and condos are available in Madeira beach where a visitor can simply lounge while watching the shimmering waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the spectacular sunsets. The Barefoot Beach Resort & Hotel is one of our favorites. It is one of the most striking hotels on the beach. The accommodations at Barefoot Beach Hotel include upscale one and two bedroom studio-style suites that are tastefully decorated with total comfort in mind. The Barefoot Beach Resort & Hotel is located on Gulf Boulevard.

The Friendly Fisherman Restaurant at John’s Pass has been serving fresh seafood and tasty side dishes for ver thirty years. On request, they’ll even cook up an angler’s catch on request. Diners enjoy the incredible views of John’s Pass while they relax to a delightful meal. For those who are seeking a lighter fare, Hub’s Raw Bar and Tavern dish up fresh oysters and wings to the sounds of live music.
Daiquiri Deck Raw Bar on Gulf Boulevard in Madeira Beach stages a different event or entertainment and menu special every night of the week. They are famous for their extensive daiquiri menu and good food.
The Bubba Gump Shrimp Company is located in John’s Pass Villiage, and features beautiful views of the new John’s Pass bridge and the Gulf of Mexico. They have a huge menu and great seafood for your enjoyment.
