Isla Del Sol History and Information
Isla Del Sol is a vision of exquisite tropical gardens, sugary white beaches, a country club, exotic birds, first class golf and tennis courts. Located five minutes from south St. Petersburg and just across the bridge from St. Pete Beach Isla Del Sol is surrounded on all sides by the sparkling water of Boca Ciega Bay. The development consists of six distinct communities - Isla Key, La Puerta del Sol, Casa del Mar, Palma del Mar, Bahia del Mar and Vista de Oro, each with its own style and architecture.
Isla Del Sol, literally “Island of the Sun,” was developed after the State of Florida Department of Transportation began building the Pinellas Bayway in 1957. The Bayway is eight miles of road and three bridges linking Isla Del Sol beaches to the Gulf of Mexico, Tierra Verde, and Mullet Key/Fort De Soto Park. The opening of the Bayway enabled developers to create the prestigious residential and vacation destination it is today.
The demographics of this island area indicate an educated and above average household income and a population of nearly 13,000. The main dining room is the Boca Ciega Room, which seats 250 guests and has a 180-degree panoramic view of the Bay. The Grille Room, adjacent to the Lounge, offers a casual atmosphere and menu. Relax, sip a beverage, and gaze at the sailboats as they breeze by at the Lounge. If dancing is your passion, visit the Lounge on Wednesday and Friday night when local talent Al Ruggeiro performs easy listening dance ensembles.
Tokyo Bay Japanese Restaurant offers the finest traditional fresh Japanese sushi in the Isla Del Sol area. Visitors and locals mingle while they take advantage of Tokyo Bay’s “All-you-can-eat” sushi roll special on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Sushi aficionados can find Tokyo Bay on Sun Boulevard West in the Isla Del Sol community.
