We recently spent a day sailing in the Gulf of Mexico after leaving from Clearwater Beach. On the way back in I was able to get a few decent shots of the new Clearwater Beach Hyatt Resort & Spa, the condos of Sand Key and Shephard’s Beach Resort and Restaurant, so I thought I would share them.
Anyone who has been watching Clearwater Beach in the past few years knows that the landscape has changed dramatically, and that the Hyatt Resort & Spa dominates that landscape. Whether Clearwater Beach needed such a monstrosity I’ll leave up to your individual opinions, but I will say it is a striking feature, similar to the Don Cesar in St. Pete Beach and its sister on the left coast, the Hotel Del Coronado near San Diego (if you haven’t had the chance to visit the “Hotel Del” I can tell you it’s worth a trip – absolutely beautiful).
I also included an image of all the Sand Key Condos visible from the Gulf outside Clearwater Inlet, as well as a close-up of Grande on Sand Key, Meridian on Sand Key and Harbour Light Towers.
Lastly, I included Shephard’s Beach Resort because it is home to Shephard’s Restaurant, one of my favorite places to eat when I am in the area. They have a great buffet featuring seafood, prime rib, crab legs, and at some times cedar plank salmon and beef wellington. Well worth a visit!
